Former Guest Family Gives Back
Jason and Michelle Slone of Knott County were guests of the Ronald McDonald House in 2004 and recently returned to the House to present a donation of $2,364 which they raised through the sale of a very special cookbook dedicated to the memory of their son, James Wesley Neal Slone. "We were impressed with what you did," Michelle said. "We always knew we wanted to give back."
The Slone's have begun planning a Pop Tab collection campaign for the Ronald McDonald House that will begin in the fall in hopes of presenting a donation again next January.
New Family Shuttle Van donated through the Kathleen Riley Torok Memorial Fund
The Kathleen Riley Torok Memorial Fund recently presented two checks to Sarah Warner, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass and Mary Venezie, Executive Director of the Florence Crittenton Home for the purchase of new client transportation vans. With assistance from Steve Gates, owner of Toyota South in Richmond, KY two beautiful new 2007 Toyota Sienna LE minivans were purchased.
“Kathleen Riley Torok was a wonderful friend and volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House for many years and she was also one of our volunteer shuttle van drivers” said RMHC Executive Director Sarah Warner, “it is a very fitting and loving tribute to the many ways she touched the lives of the families who stay with us each day.” The Ronald McDonald House shuttles their guest families to and from local hospitals three times per day so families can be by their child’s bedside within minutes. The previous RMH shuttle van was over 10 years old and has had many “hard miles” put on it with all the short trips.
